An impromptu weekend away
On Friday we decided to go on an impromptu camping trip to Bridport for the night. I was a bit apprehensive about all four of us being stuck in a small tent sharing the one air mattress for the night but the kids were no worse than at home (at the moment Lachie thinks that night time = all night party with milk on tap :). Chloe loved everything about camping. Whats not to love when you are two; tents, torches, bouncy beds, fish and chips for tea, staying up late and a tame little possum to say goodnight to.The next morning we all went out for a fish. Chloe is her Daddies little girl, she loves being in the boat and fishing. The first few times that Eden took Chloe fishing she dangled his rod dangerously close over the edge so we bought her a cheap fluro orange Kmart rod.The fish at Bidport must like fluro orange because we caught most of the fish on it. Here is Chloe reeling in her first ever fish (a nice sized flathead). We must have been in the right spot at the right time because the fish were biting. In the photo below Eden is a watching his rod as a fish has taken a bite.
After a little bit of fishing the rocking of the boat was too much for Chloe and she joined Lachlan for a little nap.
After lunch we let Chloe have a play at the beach while we tried to stretch Lachie out so he would sleep on the way home (he cried all the way to Bridport). Chloe went rock climbing and would probably be still scaling rock walls if I hadn't encouraged (bribed) her come down.
Chloe loves the beach and has a fascination with rolling around in the sand until she is covered in it. Lachie hasn't yet discovered the joy of sand rolling yet but he still loves eating it.
Tiring the kids out worked with both of them sleeping most of the way home. This meant that rather then being stuck in the back seat singing ABCD and the Wheels of the Bus countless times and trying without success to calm an upset baby I was able sit in the front (like a grown up) and have adult conversation and do a little knitting (in preparation for my second Tassie winter).

Oh fun! So nice you can all go out in the boat together even though the kids are so young.
Oh I know all about the crying to Bridport. I just turn the radio up louder. :) Good way to tire the kids out. I love that one of Eden and Lachie in the sand.
I love the photo of the kids asleep in the boat. It's good you've got them used to it. Maybe they will join the Navy! I love the colours in your kniting too. I am most impressed that you can knit while the car is driving.
Wow...you guys are so adventurous! You put us to shame....my folk in Sydney have a lovely pool and I only got in once during the whole week we were up there! Your two water babies are so cute. I so hear you about the crying in the car, I've been considering installing one of those sound proof barriers like in the taxis ;)
I think you guys have wonderful family adventures - from the ski biscuit (Toni told me she's never been so scared) to this weekend away. Great colour in the photos Steph.
looks like a lovely weekend away!
